Human Extracellular matrix protein 1

What is Human Extracellular matrix protein 1(ECM1) and its biological function

Human extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1) is a protein that is expressed in various tissues throughout the body, including skin, blood vessels, and the respiratory and reproductive systems. It is a member of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family and is composed of a core protein with attached glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains.

The primary function of ECM1 is to provide structural support and to regulate cell behavior. It does this by interacting with various signaling pathways and by serving as a scaffold for other proteins. ECM1 has been found to be involved in a number of biological processes, including angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), wound healing, and the regulation of inflammation.

There have been a number of research studies focused on ECM1 and its role in disease development. For example, a study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 2020 found that ECM1 plays a role in the development of breast cancer, and that targeting ECM1 with small molecule inhibitors may be a promising strategy for the treatment of this disease. Another study published in the same journal in 2019 found that ECM1 plays a role in the development of ovarian cancer, and that targeting ECM1 with small molecule inhibitors may be a potential therapeutic approach for the treatment of this disease.
